Issue 6 Wild Belle

It’s a common saying to expect the unexpected while traveling and being on the road. There was no telling that upon our arrival to Guatemala we would witness an entire revolution, starting with the arrest of former Vice President Roxana Baldetti on the night we arrived.

A developing nation that far surpasses the misconceptions that often litter media headlines, Guatemala is a special place that offers much more than the eye can see.

As we crisscrossed the country from Antigua to Lanquín, we gained serious insight into the inspirational generation of youth demanding change, the creative entrepreneurs, modern takes on indigenous traditions and the uniqueness of the areas’ cultures.

With each day, our world becomes more and more globalized. In between the bombardment of conflict and tension, a silver lining very much remains.

Whether in the bustling mecca of Nairobi with rising artistic siblings Velma Rossa and Papa Petit of 2manysiblings, or catching a loft jam session in Chicago with musicians Natalie and Elliot Bergman of Wild Belle, we’re constantly discovering that most of us want the same things — to connect on a deeper level, partake in the freedom of self-expression and develop a global community that values one another.

It’s easy to get caught up in the belief that originality is dead and
everything has become one homogenized sum. Many even argue we’re on the brink of an extinction of cultural diversity.

For us, that could not be farther from the truth. If anything, we’re noticing more niche pockets and communities around the world accessing platforms and audiences to share their visions.

We hope the people and creatives within the pages of issue 6 help you see that silver lining and sparkle of infectious individuality.
